City Youth Win at Witton Albion

WAFC 4 - 6 MCFC U18s

The second season running City sent an academy team down to Witton Albion's Wincham Park for a pre-season friendly and neither team disappointed in putting on a fine display by scoring some fine goals.

City started the scoring on sixteen minutes when Robbie Mak ran through and was brought down by Greg Smith in the Witton goal. Mak stepped up to convert the penalty. Just past the half way of the first half saw a mix up in the Witton defence and Alex Nimley-Tchuimeni nipped in to fire past Smith.

Four minutes later Witton pulled a goal back with a fine twenty five yard shot from Steven Smith past Nathan Dean in the City goal. City restored their two goal cushion a minute later with a shot by Andrew Mitchell from the edge of the area.

With nearly five minutes remaining of the half Witton pulled another goal back when Rod Thornley, the younger brother of Ben who was also playing, was able to receive the ball in the box and fire past Dean.

City restored their two goal cushion two minutes later when Jack Redshaw made a fine solo run and ghosted past Smith and fired in from a tight angle. Then Witton scored the best goal of the game with a great thirty yard strike from Mark Drew arrowed into the back of the net to bring the arrears back to own goal.

The second half saw Witton draw level when Rod Thornley scored his second goal of the game when the ball was pulled back to him in the area.

City had to wait till after the seventy fifth minute to gain the lead again when Nimley ran in from the left and cut the ball back for Redshaw to score his second goal of the game. City wrapped the scoring up in the ninetieth minute when Adrian Cieslewicz sent a ball over the top of the defence for Redshaw to chance onto as he ran into the box and chipped his shot over Smith and into the far corner of the goal to record a fine hat-trick for the free-scoring diminutive striker.
