Sheffield Wednesday Given a Hooting
MCFC U18s 5 - 2 SWFC U18s
City fielded their second string academy side that played in the Totesport defeat against Blackpool on Wednesday due to the fact that City have already won the league and the first team will be
playing Arsenal next Wednesday at the Emirates in the second leg of the FA youth cup semi-final. City sealed the victory with a hat-trick for Jack Redshaw and a brace of goals for his strike partner,
big John Guidetti.
City were forced into an early change because Sean Tse was forced off with a leg injury and Peta Varga came on to replace him in his centre half position. Not long after City took the lead when a
good run down the right from Adrian Cieslewicz was pulled back in the penalty area where Redshaw had peeled back and side footed the ball into the far corner of the goal.
Three minutes later and City had doubled their lead when a corner came in from the right and the Wednesday goalkeeper came to collect the ball at the near post but got no where near it and Redshaw
was there and the ball came to him and hit him on the leg and looped in with Jack not knowing much about it, but it was still clearly his goal.
City made it three nil just before the half hour mark when a Tom Smith free kick just inside the Wednesday half was played in with decent pace and there was a completely un-marked Guidetti who gladly
accepted the opportunity and powerfully guided his header into the back of the goal.
City then scored a fourth just before half time when Cieslewicz moved from right to left with the ball before playing a one two with Jeremy Helan where Adrian fired his cross into the near post and
Guidetti just got in front of the defender to fire into the goal.
City understandingly did not play at such a high tempo and so it was no surprise that Wednesday got a goal back when a corner was not fully dealt with and the Wednesday player looped his shot from
fifteen yards into the back of the goal.
City pepped up and Cieslewicz caused the Wednesday defence problems and was brought down in the area and the referee awarded the penalty kick. There then ensued a few words between Guidetti and
Redshaw as both players as both players were on for a hat-trick; but Redshaw is the senior player and a designated penalty taker and so he confidently stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way
to the delight I am sure of Guidetti who would have been a bit put out had he missed.
Wednesday scored a late goal when goalkeeper Eirik Johansen and Igor Paldan had a mix up outside the area and the Wednesday player that has been on the bench for the first team fired a great shot
into the back of the goal from about forty yards.
City: E Johansen(GK), Smith, Carter(Capt.), Elabdellaoui(Kapsalopodas) Tse(Varga), Paldan, Cieslewicz, Mitchell, Redshaw, Guidetti, Helan(Grandison).
Subs: Dean(GK), Frater.
Good news for the young U16 side that secured a fine three nil victory and are looking a better side after a hard season.
