Liverpool beaten again by City
Liverpool U18s 1 – 2 MCFC U18s
City started the new year with three points to maintain their large gap at the top of their league and secure their first double victory of the season at this level. Goals in each half by two on form
players, Ched Evans and Karl Moore who went on to seal the victory after Liverpool had equalized late in the first half.
City took the lead when Ched Evans was given the freedom to run onto a through ball and hold of the defender and coolly brush the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner. Prior to that city had
hit the post twice through Evans and David Ball.
Liverpool equalized through a swerving twenty yard shot that got City’s goalkeeper, Filip Mentel, all confused and he led with his wrong hand and could not get to the ball consequently.
Liverpool came out after the break with real purpose and even though City had kicked off after the re-start it was Liverpool who could have taken the lead within the first twenty seconds, but the
effort went just wide.
City took the lead however when substitute Michael Daly and Ched headed on the ball into the box on the right which ran to Moore who smashed the ball into the back of the net.
City entertain lowly Stoke at platt lane next Saturday to look forward to their march onto winning the league.
City: Mentel(GK), Vidal(Obeng 46), Mee, McDonald, Breen(Capt.), Clayton, Kay(M Daly 46), Marshall, Evans, Ball, Moore.
Subs: Hartley(GK), I Daly, McDermott.
The U16s were held to a 2-2 draw a result which they obviously would have like to see as a win as Liverpool were the only team to beat them prior to Christmas.
