Liverpool Can't Stop City Juggernaut

MCFC U18s 4 - 1 LFC U18s

Two goals in either half were enough to allow City to move seven points clear of Liverpool; who were the team that was lying second in academy group C prior to this weekend's games and third place Manchester United drawing one all at Everton who are now ten points behind with a game in hand. City's goals came from Ahmed Benali, a brace from goalscoring centre half Dedryck Boyata and Alex Nimley-Tchuimeni with his obligatory goal to take his tally to thirteen for the season.

City took the lead in the sixteenth minute when the ball came to Nimley out on the right and he held the ball up before laying the ball back for Robbie Mak who strode forward and fired a fine shot from the edge of the area that the Liverpool goalkeeper could only parry as the ball bounced up and Benali ran in to head the ball into the goal.

City doubled their lead on thirty nine minutes when a Kieran Trippier corner was flicked on by Greg Cunningham and there was Boyata unmarked at the far post to put the ball past the stranded goalkeeper.

The third goal was all down to Boyata who I have christened the Kaiser as he really reminds you of the great Franz Beckenbauer in his style of play. Dedryck strolled forward from the defence at a decent pace but it looked all so easy for him as he carried the ball forward; but about thirty yards out the defender put a good tackle in but the ball fell to Chris Chantler and he sent over a good switching ball over to the opposite flank where captain Andrew Tutte ran on and crossed into the box and there was Dedryck who majestically sent in a looping header into the top corner.

Two minutes later and the game was over as a through ball found Robbie Mak as he powerfully held off the defenders and he just saw a sight of goal and he struck a tremendous shot that beat the goalkeeper but unfortunately did not beat the underside of the bar; but there was Nimley to rush in to side foot into the empty goal.

Liverpool scored a late consolation goal through their centre half on eighty eight minutes when he let fly with a thirty yard strike that went into the top right corner of the goal.

City travel to Crewe next Saturday who can sometimes prove quite difficult for City and so I will be happy with any sort of victory there as they have been a bit of a bogey side for us.
