PRE SEASON FIXTURE

Saturday 17th July 2010

Hyde United 0 Manchester City X1 2

Benali, Chantler

Citys elite squads first pre season friendly of the season saw them retain the Ray Stanley shield with a 2-0 victory.

In the new blue Ewen fields both sides lined up in new shirts, Hyde sporting their new umbro white shirt with the CITC logo on it and City in an all maroon shirt, which we believe to be a training top

City were a bit thin on the ground in terms of numbers being only able to name 14 players with the remainder of the 'Elite Squad' in America. It could have been 15 but James Poole had to sit out the game as there was some confusion as to if he was eligible to take part in the game, following his sending off for Bury in their final game of last season, so Steve Eyre in temporary charge of the side wisely decided to await clarification.

It was a bright opening couple of minutes for City and in particular Hydes last minute goal keeper replacement Brynn Hindley. The young Australian hailing from Dundee had been called up because first choice keeper Craig Mawson had just received a phone call to say he was required in Singapore in his other job as goal keeping coach to Burnley FC.

Hindley denied both Harry Bunn and Omar Elabdellaoui and excelled himself even further minutes later when he tipped a 25 yard shot from Ahmad Benali onto the bar.

Disaster struck Citys already depleted squad on ten minutes when Ryan McGiverns participation in the game ended, he landed badly on his right knee when heading a corner and was soon replaced by Freddie Veseli.

Hyde then began to claw their way back into the game. Matty Burke saw a first time volley just go wide of the post and Andy Smart's 25 yard free kick went straight into the arms of Karius

Hindley was again in action on 37 minutes turning a shot from Adam Clayton round the post, luck however was not on his side minutes later, when a well worked short corner between Elabdellaoui and Clayton saw the young Norwegian through on goal' his shot was stopped by the keeper but Ahmad Benali was on hand to follow up

Minutes before the half time break Adam Clayton saw a shot from 35 yards just sail over the bar. The pressure from City was to continue in the second half straight from the kick off Elabdellaoui out on the right was through on goal but dragged his shot wide of goal.

Benali then should have had his second goal of the game, but planted a free header over the bar following good work between Veseli and Vidal

TRIALIST Mohammed Abu TRIALIST Mohammed Abu

City were fielding a Ghanian trailist by the name of Mohammed Abu, and he certainly ran the midfield for City and was MCRAA man of the match. On 55 minutes a 25 yard shot of his was heading for the top corner but was tipped wide by Hindley and minutes later he fired over again

Hydes secretary was telling us how he expected his side to tire in the last few 15 minutes as they had only had two days training, but nobody told that to the Hyde players as they enjoyed their best spell of the game, Scott Mooney was denied a goal when Karius saved at the foot of a post and Greg Traynor had a shot tipped over

On 80 mins Hindley made another heroic double save , first denying Clayton and then seconds later Chantler.

Six minutes from the end City doubled their advantage, Jean Roman Olle saw the intelligent run of Chris Chantler into the box, the young defender/winger then drew the keeper and fired past him and then just before the end Olle was unlucky not to see his name on the score sheet when he accepted a pass from Abu and his  first time shot crashed agianst the inside of the upright.

In all a good start to the season but problems may arise as City had a distinct lack of fire power
