Everton Get Sticky Toffee from City

EFC U18s 1 – 3 MCFC U18s

City continued their winning ways with a fine victory away to Everton with a first half penalty from Ched Evans from a hand ball and two quick goals after the re-start from Paul Marshall and Ben Mee.
City included two over age players in their starting line up for the first time in a long while, probably due to the lack of games available to them prior to this week, and also maybe another chance to see what they can do as both Sam Williamson and Ashley Williams have fallen down the pecking order somewhat and I would be very surprised to see both of them at the club next season.
City’s first goal was the penalty on nine minutes when a ball into the box was handled by one of the Everton centre half’s. Ched Evans was again as cool as you like as he smashed the ball into the net.
City saw Everton equalize just before the half hour mark when Williamson and Mee both left too big a gap to close down on Everton’s Kieran Agard who slotted the ball into the far post and in over the line past Filip Mentel’s despairing dive.
Within four minutes of the re-start City were back in front with good work down the left by Karl Moore and Williamson led to Sam slipping the ball to Marshall who neatly placed the ball into the far top corner.
Four minutes later the game was effectively won when Curtis Obeng was fouled on the right hand side; Marshall curled the free kick to the far post and there was Mee to get his head to it as Everton’s goalkeeper, Jamie Jones, rushed out to punch it, but failed to get there.
It might have been a different story however if Everton’s Agard had scored his one on one with Mentel two minutes after the break.
Everton continued to try to get something out of the game but Captain Gary Breen made his defence stand firm on a few occasions.
Good news for the boys travelling back down the M57 and M62 as Black burn beat Bolton 2-1 which means City are now 12 points clear with 7 games remaining.

City: Mentel(GK), Obeng, Williamson, Mee, Breen(Capt.), Marshall, Williams(M Daly 60), Clayton, Evans, Ball(McDermott 74), Moore.

City’s U16s was switched to Platt Lane and they carried on winning as well with a 2-1 score line.
