Derby Rammed away by City

MCFC U18s 3 – 1 DCFC U18s

City decided to field a mainly U17 team in their last home game as the main league season draws to a close with only two more games remaining. A Brace for David Ball takes him to 17 for the season and crucially above Ched Evans who is on 16. James Poole got the second goal. Derby’s goal came in the last minute via a wicked deflection.
City were quite fortunate to take the lead with the referee being somewhat harsh on Derby as Vladimir Weiss looked to have tumbled over rather too easily. Up stepped David Ball to send the keeper the wrong way.
City doubled their lead four minutes before the break when Weiss worked well down the right and crossed into the box and Poole got his shot away, the keeper got a good hand to it, but it just managed to squeeze in the corner.
The second half was played more evenly and with nearly twenty minutes to go City made a triple substitution which broke the play up, but that did not stop them pushing forward and City hit Derby on the break when Donal McDermott sent Ball free on the right and he finished in the bottom corner of the net while one on one with the goalkeeper. That was a minute before time and nearly immediately after Derby scored when the ball bobbled kindly for the Derby player and it took a wicked deflection past a stranded Filip Mentel in goal.

City: Mentel(GK), Obeng, McGivern, Mee, Breen(Capt.)(Ramsey 73), M Daly(Tsiaklis 73), Weiss, Kay, Ball, Poole(Morris 73), McDermott.

The U16s continued their fine form with a 4-0 victory with the little lad up front getting a second half hat-trick.
