Crewe Railroaded by City
MCFC U18s 3 – 0 CAFC U18s
After a two week break, the U18s resumed normal service in a reasonably comfortable three nil victory, in a repeat score line of the away game in September.
Paul Marshall started the scoring of in the twelfth minute when a corner was only half cleared and Paul struck the ball back in from about twenty eight yards into the bottom corner, but the shot
looked like the goalkeeper should have saved it.
City doubled their lead fourteen minutes later when David Ball ran onto a through pass by Ched Evans and Ball drifted of to his right to shoot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner in his
first of a brace of goals.
City continued to create chances without really testing the keeper. They went on to seal the deserved victory twenty six minutes into the second half when the same combination of players that scored
the second goal replicated it for the third; this time Evans ran onto a through ball, but had to take it wide past the keeper, but provided a pinpoint cross for Ball to latch his boot onto and place
into the bottom corner of the net.
City maintained their nine point advantage in the league with Bolton securing a two nil victory away to Liverpool today, who themselves amazingly find they have made the FA youth cup semi-final this
week with a very ordinary side after beating Sheffield United in the quarter finals.
On another possible worry note saw Garry Breen holding his hamstring towards the end of the game. With Clayton McDonald out injured, City will be short on centre-halves if Breen is more than a
strain.
City: Mentel(GK), Obeng, Mee, Vidal, Breen(Capt.), Marshall(Mouritsen 83), McDermott, Clayton(Weiss 81), Evans(M Daly 78), D Ball, Moore.
Good news for the U16s as they continued their unbeaten run with a fine 2-1 victory.
