City travelled to Bury's Gigg Lane for their third Manchester Senior cup game of the season having won their first against Stockport and penalties against Oldham last month. City sealed victory in this game with a fine Hat-trick from England U20 international Alex Nimley-Tchuimeni; who even missed a penalty.
City started brightly as in the first minute Robbie Mak played in a good free kick from the right and it came into the far post and Nimley ran in and hit his shot off the underside of the bar. It was all Nimley as he had a shot in the twelfth minute as he made room for himself but the shot went across the face of the goal.
Nimley then turned provider in the fourteenth minute when he picked the ball up just in the Bury half and ran at the defence before creating space and playing the ball into Abdisiliam Ibrahim who missed an easy chance as he shot wide.
However a minute later and City had taken the lead when Kieran Trippier played a ball down the right that the defence missed and Nimley nipped in and slipped the ball into the goal.
Nimley was causing Bury all sorts of problems as again he came close to adding another goal when he had a fine turn and shot on the edge of the area that forced Bury's goalkeeper, Cameron Belford into a good save.
Two minutes later and it was Nimley's strike partner Jack Redshaw turn to take the limelight when Donal McDermott played in a cross from the left and Jack set himself but he played his shot just wide.
Bury's first chance came after the game was delayed for a couple of minutes after an incident when the referee had a word but both players obvious took offence and then talked themselves into a booking. The resulting free kick on the left was deflected and goalkeeper Tobias Johansen did well to tip the ball behind for a corner.
Just a couple of minutes before the first half ended and City doubled their lead when Trippier crossed from the right and Belford thought he was coming in to claim the ball but Nimley was alert and he got in to head past him and into the goal.
City did not let off their pressure in the second half for as early as the fourth minute again Nimley got himself a chance when a Mak free kick was whipped in but Nimley headed the effort wide. Just a minute later and a deep McDermott corner cross to Dedryck Boyata who had a fine deep header that was cleared off the line by Bury's Tom Farrell.
Just after the hour mark and City should have scored their third when McDermott back flipped the ball into the path of Captain Javan Vidal and he was brought down in the area. Nimley stepped up to convert what would have been his hat-trick; but footballers never learn as he decided to do a stop start run up which makes them indecisive and Belford was able to save the paltry effort and Mak could not convert the rebound as he blazed over.
Three minutes later and Nimley got his deserved hat-trick when Vidal played the ball down the right and into Redshaw who found McDermott and he played the ball back to Nimley who twisted and confused the defenders before hitting the ball into the corner of the goal.
City seemed to back off a bit and it was Bury that created a couple of chances for themselves when a Richie Barker free kick flashed just wide of the goal and substitute Max Harrop had a fine thirty yard effort that Johansen was able to get behind.
Swiss youth World Cup winner Freddy Veseli nearly got himself on the field in stoppage time as defender Reece Wabara limped off; but bizarrely their was no stoppage of play to get him on. Also during the game one of the ball that was used was clearly under inflated but non of the players mentioned it.
This third win; one after penalties in the Manchester Senior cup means that one win from either the Manchester United or Bolton game will mean that City will be in the senior cup final and given how well City reserves are playing; you would not bet against it.
