Bolton End Nine Match Winning Run

MCFC U18s 1 – 2 BWFC U18s

Typical physical and spoiling tactics of Bolton upset the fluid football of the academy league leaders. Although City went in front on the stroke of half time, from a David Ball header, that went in off the post; it was not enough to get any thing out of the game.
City dominated the first half but even though they had many shots on target, they failed to put the ball either side of the keeper to test him, and so a three nil half time lead would not have looked out of place; instead just the solitary goal separated the two sides.
For some reason or other City failed to get out of their half time mode when they came out for the second half. The writing was on the wall within the first ninety seconds of the re-start when Bolton had a goal disallowed for offside.
Four minutes later Bolton were awarded a debateable penalty when the City defence rose when the Bolton forwards were backing in from their free kick. The Bolton player struck a fine penalty into the bottom corner.
Ten minutes later Bolton were in front where some indecision in the City led to the Bolton player being free in the box with what looked an offside position but he was able to run in and curl the ball in over Filip Mentel’s goal.
City threw all their subs on towards the end, but they could not break down the country’s best defence again and Bolton cut City’s lead to nine points.
City now travel to 3rd place Blackburn next Saturday to get back to stamping their undoubted class back on the league.

City: Mentel(GK), Obeng(Poole 82), Mee, McDonald(Pollitt 28), Breen(Capt.), Marshall, Clayton, McDermott(I Daly 76), Evans, Ball, Moore.

Better news for the U16s as they returned to winning ways after their disappointing draw last week at Wolves with a fine 4-1 victory with one of our eastern European contingent scoring a fine hat-trick.
