City Double over Blackburn
MCFC U18s 2 - 0 BRFC U18s
Two unanswered first half goals from Robbie Mak and Ahmed Benali meant City did the double over Blackburn Rovers; putting ten goals past them in the two games. Which takes City to seventeen games
unbeaten in all competitions for the whole of the season.
Blackburn clearly wanted to make amends for their humiliating defeat at their own academy back in early November and so were quite well organised and looked like it would be a decent test for City.
However City took the real first chance of the game in the seventeenth minute when Chris Chantler collected the ball just over the half way line and controlled the ball well before turning neatly and
ran at the Blackburn defence before releasing a perfect pass for Mak to run onto and beat the offside and coolly slot the ball past the goalkeeper and into the right hand corner of the goal.
City doubled their lead just over ten minutes later when again Chantler was involved as he slipped a ball through to Alex Nimley-Tchuimeni who saw Benali making a good diagonal run into the box and
his through ball was inch perfect as Benali evaded the challenge and put the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.
The second half was a very even affair with Joe Clegg of a fine save low to his left and City having a Greg Cunningham headed goal from a Kieran Trippier long free kick ruled out for pushing in the
box. Blackburn did force a few errors from City but there was always another player there to cover up the mistake.
City travel to second place Liverpool next week; although their game was postponed today and Manchester United have gone two points above them; eight points behind City.
City: Clegg(GK), Trippier, Cunningham, Tse(Smith 89), Boyata, Tutte(Capt.), Benali, Ibrahim, Mak, Nimley-Tchuimeni(Redshaw 77), Chantler.
Subs: E Johansen(GK), Guidetti, Elabdellaoui.
The U16s will be unhappy that they drew 3-3 as they were leading 3-1 in the second half.
