Blackburn Rovers Academy Report

City roar to victory as they snap Rovers bite

by Andrew Waldon

A fine victory on two accounts, firstly sweet revenge against a side
that had inflicted upon the 18’s their only loss of the season and
secondly and perhaps more importantly, a seven point gap opened at the
top of the league as our nearest challengers Everton were held to a
three, three draw in their local derby fixture against Liverpool,

The first half remained goal-less but if honours had to be given out
for the number of times a side struck the woodwork, Blackburn would
have been in the lead by two chances to one. City’s opportunity falling
to Robbie Mak. Kieran Trippier’s corner was headed back into the box by
Dedryck Boyata, Ben Mee’s shot went to ground and Mak reacted with a
header that crashed against the bar.

Within five minutes of the start of the second half City took the
lead. Angelos Tsiaklis miss-hit a shot, David Balls follow up was
blocked but Mak reacted first and put his side in front. Mak back from
injury was substituted some time later by the academy’s side’s latest
recruit, Liberian wonder kid, Alex Nimley who had been recruited from
Cameroon outfit Cotonsport to pursue his Premier League dream after
Portsmouth refused to meet his wage demands and Blackburn failed to
make an offer,

Prolific goal poacher Ball then wrapped up the game for City on sixty
nine minutes rounding the keeper after getting on the end of a long
range pass from Ryan McGivern.

In the later stages of the game James Poole levelled the alternative
scoreline of chances hitting the wood work when his first time shot hit
the bar.

In all a good victory over a side we tend to struggle against.

Team: Hartley, Trippier, McGivern, Boyata, Mee, Tsiaklis, Weiss
(Ibrahim), Kay, Ball, Mak (Nimley), Poole

The U16’s suffered only their second defeat of the season going down
by two goals to nil.
