Barnsley Hit for Six

BFC U18s 1 - 6 MCFC U18s

The old cliche of a game of two halves was played out at a sunny Oakwell this lunchtime where an over physical Barnsley side took an first half lead and City were unable to equalize until the thirty ninth minute despite creating some really good chances. The second half however was one way traffic as City showed their class and defender Dedryck Boyata scored a perfect hat-trick.

City conceded the lead in the sixteenth minute when the Barnsley player scored a direct free kick from twenty five yards that beat Tobias Johansen in goal. City continued to press forward but they were not a cohesive unit and their usual flowing football never really got going on a regular footing. Robbie Mak continued to probe the Barnsley defence and broke free on a couple of occasions and found Alex Nimley-Tchuimeni on both times and somehow Alex missed both chances; very similar to Jo in the first team. Alex redeemed himself however in the thirty ninth minute when he sweetly placed a volley into the corner of the net when Boyata headed a Kieron Trippier free kick back across goal.

The second half was a totally different story as Andrew Tutte who was quite subdued in the first half; took much more control of the game like we are used to seeing him do and then City cut through Barnsley at will.

The scoring frenzy started in the third minute after the break when Boyata powered a far post header home from a Greg Cunningham free kick. Six minutes later Ahmed Benali made a good run into the box and the ball came out of the area to Tutte who nonchelently place a beautiful curling shot into the top corner of the goal.

We then had to wait fifteen more minutes for the next goal when Boyata ran in unmarked to fire into the net at the far post from a Chris Chantler corner. Three minutes later saw the Barnsley goalkeeper produce a fine save from a Benali shot in the penalty area. Nimley had another fantastic effort hit the cross bar from thirty yards after Mak had drove forward well.

Just a minute later Chantler was brought down in the box and up stepped Boyata after humorously wrestling the ball off Nimley as he smashed the ball into the corner of the net. Three minutes from time City scored their sixth when Nimley's shot was deflected out to Chantler who drove a powerful shot from nearly twenty yards at a tight angle and into the far corner of the goal.

That is now twenty four goals in five league games for the blues and striker Robbie Mak did not score today; so if we can continue this form the City faithfull at Platt Lane should get to see some good games.

City: Johansen(GK), Trippier(Capt)(Cieslewicz 84), Cunningham, Wabara, Boyata, Tutte, Benali, Ibrahim(Redshaw 71), Mak(Guidetti 84), Nimley-Tchuimeni, Chantler.

Not to be outdone the U16s also won 6 - 2; although their result was slightly tainted as one of the defenders was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist.
