Barnsley Tykes Treated to City Win
BFC U18s 1 – 2 MCFC U18s
Unfortunately I arrived quite late for this fixture, but was told that we were very lucky to be one nil up in the first half thanks to a Ched Evans converted penalty after Javan Vidal was brought
down in the box on the half hour mark. Barnsley had two clear cut chances to be ahead; once with being one on one with Filip Mentel in the goal and the other chance they hit the cross bar.
Although it was a lovely sunny day, Barnsley’s academy is right next to Oakwell and the strong winds were blowing in of the hillside and so keeping the ball down was a must. However this was made
even harder due to the pitch not being at its best and needed some heavy watering to stop the ball bouncing so much.
The second half saw the wind die down a bit but within ten minutes of the re-start Barnsley were level thanks to a penalty after Clayton McDonald had a clumsy push in the box.
City continued to look a bit laboured, and were not creating the clean cut chances, that we are used to seeing from them. They did however manage to break the deadlock just over halfway through the
second half. City were awarded a free kick when Curtis Obeng was brought down on the right; Adam Clayton curled the ball into the near post and substitute Michael Daly connected with it and sent it
into the top corner via a deflection.
This win means it will take a minor miracle from Blackburn who we play shortly in a re-arranged game to overtake us now we are 20 points clear with seven games to play and 18 points clear of Bolton
with six games to play.
