City won 5-3 on pens

City were a goal down at half time after the hosts number 70 gave them the lead in the 30th minute, beating keeper Karius to the ball he then thwarted the challenge of Tom Skogsrud before firing into an empty net.

Nils Zander drew things level on 53 minutes, when a corner from the right was knocked back by John Guidetti and the German full back fired home.

A mix up in defence between Karius and Zander, saw the City’s keepers attempted clearance hit Al Ains number 70 and he was given the simple opportunity to put his side back in the lead

Substitute Jeremy Helan was then sent off just minutes after coming on but with two minutes of normal time left City were back on level terms. John Guidetti was again involved in the build up and his final pass saw Swiss international Frederic Veseli fire home from the edge of the box, to take things to penalties

 

City held their nerve and won the shoot out 5-3 with Ahmad Benali, John Guidetti, Harry Bunn, Andrew Mitchell and Frederic Veseli finding the target
